Helping resolve family law matters out of court
Helping resolve family law matters out of court
My goal is to help families navigate their chosen settlement-based dispute resolution process in the most time-efficient and cost-effective manner, and to ensure the process and outcome help families move forward with confidence. The best interests of children must always be a top prioirty and full financial disclosure by both parties is required.
Take a look at the services I offer, and then please send me an email at jennifer@woodrufflaw.ca, telling me about your situation and letting me know what questions you have for me.
I've compiled a list of family law resources that you may find useful.
One counter-intuitive example of why I often recommend the Collaborative Process is that even though it involves more professionals than mediation or negotiation with lawyers, there are advantages that come from dividing up the process amongst professionals whose hourly rates may be lower than lawyers' rates. Mental Health Professionals acting as Divorce Coaches and Child Specialists can work with parents to create a Separation Agreement's Parenting Plan that is truly in the best interests of the children. Further, Divorce Coaches help couples work through any emotional issues that are blocking one or both parties from being ready to resolve financial issues. Financial Specialists work as neutrals to do the work that law firms would otherwise do, and they have expertise that can help set family members up to be more financially knowledgeable and confident after the Agreement is signed.
Having professionals with different skills often results in a more forward-looking and durable agreement. The cost of creating a Separation Agreement or a Cohabitation or Marriage Agreement through the Collaborative Process is not just about the creation of an Agreement, but it's also an investment in family members’ financial and emotional futures and children's well-being.
For many going through a separation, I've noticed the first step of reaching out to ask for help can be the hardest hurdle to overcome. Contact me to set up an initial phone consultation, so you can decide if I'm the right person to help you navigate the process, whether you're going through a separation and divorce or in a new relationship that needs a cohabitation or marriage agreement.
